PETSCII (Commodore 64/128)
A dedicated connection option for real Commodore 64/128 hardware and
PETSCII terminal emulators (SyncTERM's C64 mode, Novaterm, CCGMS,
64NIC+). Completely separate from the Telnet/SSH ANSI menus —
PETSCII isn't ANSI, so there's no color, no cursor-addressed
selectors, just plain text, numbered menus, and single-key prompts.
Off by default — the sysop has to opt in. If you don't see a
PETSCII port mentioned anywhere for this BBS, it isn't enabled here;
use Telnet or SSH instead.
Connecting
Two ports, one per screen width — connect to whichever matches your
setup:
| Width | Typical port |
|---|---|
| 40 columns | 6400 |
| 80 columns | 6401 |
There's no auto-detect: every connection on a given port is treated
as that width, unconditionally, since most real C64 telnet clients
don't announce themselves usefully otherwise.
What you can do
- Message boards — browse, read, post, reply
- Echomail — pick a network first, then its areas
- Private messages
- File areas — browse, view extended descriptions, download over
XMODEM (start your terminal's receive when prompted) - Who's online
- View/edit your profile
- Play Number Guessing — the one built-in game available here
(guess a number, get higher/lower hints)
Door games, ANetCRAFT, MRC/IRC Client, and ANSI art are not
offered over PETSCII — none of those have a plain-text-only path.
Sysop note
Sysops can build fully custom PETSCII menus — see Sysop Guide.
